Lokesh The Shining is one of Stanley Kubrick's finest movies. I would rate this film among the top 5 movies directed by Mr. Kubrick. I particularly loved the screenplay, cinematography and the background score, but the best thing about the movie, at least for me, will always be the fantastic performance by Jack Nicholson. In my view, The Shining is more of a psychological thriller than a horror movie. The particular mental ailment suffered by the protagonist is not clearly defined anywhere in the story, but it can be inferred to be a direct result of the sudden, drastic changes in his lifestyle and surroundings. I wonder if this is what happens to someone who suddenly has to deal with an environment that they have not been used to or prepared for adequately. The prolonged wide angle shots featured throughout the movie are one of the distinctive trademarks of Kubrick’s cinematic style.

Angela The movie Shining was one of the first horror films that I watched growing up where the scenes in the film seemed believable. Ever since this movie Jack Nicholson has been my favorite actor because I don’t think they could have found anyone else to play this role better. In fact, all the actors in the film were great but I must admit that my favorite scene is seeing murder written on the mirror backwards.
